The course is structured around an adult learning model in which participants are expected to identify and work towards achieving specific learning objectives.

The course itself incorporates didactic input, experiential learning, skills development, role plays, seminar format.

Course Structure

The Advanced Clinical Training Program is offered in a distance education modality. Briefly, this means that course participants will attend Clinical Intensives, and submit regular summaries of guided reading material.

The training program is structured around four training modules or semester units, which are offered over a two year period.

In addition to the Clinical Training Program, one clinical supervision module is offered to those who choose to pursue Clinical Membership of the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT). Supervision modules are offered by negotiation, either individually or in groups of no more than six participants.

Two specific options and locales are offered:

This program is centred around two 5-day Clinical Intensives each year, one in First Semester (usually March/April), and one in Second Semester (usually August). The Clinical Intensives are held in Newcastle.  Attendance at the Intensives is required. Course participants will also be required to present a tape/disc of a clinical session with a client.
